Rent in France
To rent in France is considered the norm by almost half the population; the French don’t have the same compulsion as the English to own their own homes, friends of mine consider it a huge weight around their necks preventing them from upping sticks comfortably and simply in the event that an opportunity to rent a better house or apartment comes along. Things are changing however and more and more young people are questioning the reason to rent in France, when buying property in France (or anywhere else in the world) gives the opportunity for capital appreciation.
To own one’s own home is popular in most developed countries, with, Spain, Italy and Greece having the highest percentages of home ownership, helped in part by the number of flats and also by the fact that extended families often helping to buy. These are followed, surprisingly by Russia, this is due to the fact that when the old Soviet Union was disbanded the government gave the population the chance to buy their properties for a nominal sum, otherwise the majority would have continued to rent as before.
Perhaps one would have expected that the United States would be at the top but they have a home ownership percentage of sixty eight percent, one point behind the UK. Switzerland has the highest number of citizens that rent, sixty nine per cent, and Germany fifty eight percent of whom continue to rent their homes.
It looks as though renting in France will remain popular for quite some time, and even when the population do buy the popular properties in France are in and around the cities or on the coast. The French seem to consider the British love affair with old French country properties as rather absurd and typical of ‘Rost Beoufs’.
Paris is a great city to visit. It has many tourist attractions such as the Louvre. Search and book a hotel in Paris.
